Personal Message From Katie
Throughout my life, I have been a caretaker. I mended my little sister Maria’s wounds, ranging from scraped knees to a hand burned on a woodstove. I took care of our livestock when they were ill and gave medicine to baby calves. I cleaned and bandaged the wounded hands and knees of my grade school classmates. Later, I became a nurse and cared for patients in hospitals and clinics.
During the past 20 years, I have seen the ups and downs people experience with health care, sharing tears of joy and sadness with patients. Health care has become more difficult to navigate with higher costs, increased regulations and more hoops to jump through. Sometimes, it takes hours or days just to schedule an appointment, order a test or approve a medication.
I’ve often asked, “Why is health care so difficult and complicated; and why is a system that was designed to help sometimes causing harm?”
I believe we can do better. I believe there are ways to put the “care” back in health care and give people a superior experience. Direct Primary Care is an innovative model that begins to address some of these issues. It allows us to do what is most important — partnering with you so you can live your healthiest life.
